Leisure Definition

This is a picture of Mount Rainier at sunset with the reflection in a lake near by and I think it is a photo that represents leisure. This picture I think shows leisure because it is taken from the Pacific Northwest which is very far away from here and is in a place out of the norm. The picture gives the representation of the normal being the mountain with the reflection being somewhere besides where the mountain is located. So it shows leisure by the representation of the mountain in a different location than where it normally is. This picture to me reminds me of my vacations to Seattle Washington and how much I enjoyed looking at Mount Rainier and how much I want to go back there. Leisure to me is doing something outside of your normal routine that is for entertainment or for fun. I see leisure as a time when you can escape your normal life and expand into something that is not your norm. Whether that is sky diving or just sitting by a lake watching the sunset I think leisure is finding enjoyment in something that you do for yourself and not for anyone else.

This picture is of people relaxing, swimming and playing on the beach  It represents the fact that there are many different places you can participate in leisure activities. To me this is a pretty good representation of leisure.  At the beach you have a lot of different options to choose from when you decide how to spend your time.  That is exactly what I think of when I think of leisure.  So, my personal definition of leisure is spending time in any way you want that may include anything from a relaxing activity such as watching TV to something more strenuous like playing a sport. As long as you enjoy what you are doing it can be considered a leisure activity.

 ASSIGNMENT 1



This picture is of a roller coaster in the theme park Islands of Adventure.  I have probably ridden this very roller coaster 25 or more times.  This picture is significant to me because I have place attachment to Islands of Adventure.  Basically my entire family lives in Florida, besides my direct family.  I usually visit this theme park every time I visit my relatives in Florida; therefore, this picture means a great deal.  Leisure is a complicated term; I think that it is a way to relieve stress, relax, and escape reality for a while.  I believe that leisure is a significant part in everyone's lives.

Assignment 1

This is a picture of a basketball court. This represents a significant part of my life because it's where I go to get away from all the stresses of my life. No matter what problems or struggles I may be going through, as soon as I step onto the court I become oblivious to it all. My sole purpose is to compete and improve on my craft. This picture symbolizes so much about me in that the solitude it represents is also prevalent in me once I pick up that basketball and start shooting. This is the ideal image of leisure for me in that it is something I truly enjoy on a daily basis and it helps to keep me sane in this otherwise nutty world. It is an escape from the many pressures of society and is a constant in my life and many others'.

Assignment 1

The picture I have chosen is of the winning team from my family’s annual softball game held every summer in our backyard.  Every year we have anywhere from thirty to forty of our friends and family members over to get together, socialize, eat great food, and of course play softball.  In the past what we have done is had a big buffet line, where everyone in attendance brings a dish or dessert, so we are never short on food and everyone always leaves full.  After eating, we split everyone up into four teams and have a mini tournament, where the winning team gets trophies and more importantly bragging rights throughout the year ahead (just kidding).  This picture really means a lot to me because it represents family and a sense of togetherness which has always meant a lot to me.  I have always appreciated getting to see everyone and catching up with them since we often do not have the opportunity to get together and spend time throughout the year.  Whenever I look at pictures, such as this, from our softball games, it brings back memories of the music playing in the background, the smell of the fresh cut grass, and most important the laughs shared that day.  To me leisure is something that we are able to participate in, which brings both joy and relaxation; something that when we do it, takes away all our worries and attention from the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

Assignment 1

I chose the Super Mario Bros. 3 logo to represent my definition of leisure.  This game brings back great memories of my childhood.  My friends and I would struggle to make it through a boring day of elementary school so we could run home and spend hours playing this game.  This picture represents millions of people all over the world who spend their free time (and not so free time) playing video games to relax and forget their problems.  For myself, video games gave me incentive to get my school/work done throughout the day so I could relax with my friends.  Leisure could stand for taking a nap to someone, while another would say they relax best by competing.  To me, leisure could be defined as enjoyable or challenging activities voluntarily performed to have fun and relax.
